Last Sunday my dear friend Kristen invited our family over for dinner after church. What a treat! We have church at 1:00 now so I packed our jammies and figured we would head over to her house directly after church. But then Rob took forever helping with tithing responsibilities. And then Ryan called and asked if we had tortilla chips at our house we could stop by and get. And then Rob was driving really, really slow. By the time we actually arrived at the Kissell's, it was 5:30! The night was cold and the wind blew, and so as soon as I had Mallory out of the car I started running to the door despite Rob's plea for me to help him get Maya's shoes on. "Sorry honey! It's freezing!" And, being the close friends that we are, I really didn't knock on Kristen's front door. Instead, I just walked right in. And perfectly on cue, all my wonderful friends jumped out and said,
"SURPRISE!!" For me??! Why thank you!!
What a fun surprise (Because I really was surprised!). The Kissells had decorated everything in a Hawaiian theme... which really was so sweet. I've been saying for a long time that I'd love to spend my 30th Birthday 27th Birthday in Hawaii. But of course, that didn't happen. And so my friends and cute husband brought Hawaii to me!
We had leis, Hawaiian Haystacks, tropical drinks with umbrellas, and a beach themed (yummy!) cake. What a fun night! And as my sister Maren says, the best part of getting surprised is knowing that people were thinking nice things about me, even when I wasn't around. I felt so loved!
What a fun group! Our family loves all these people!
Ashley, Laura, Meredith, Melissa, Kristen, Katrina, Jocelyn
Happy 30th 27th Birthday to me!!
And thank you to my sweet husband and wonderful friends for throwing me such a fun party!
Aloha!

Happy Happy Birthday, Melis! Wish I could have been there to help you celebrate!
P.S....I REALLY don't wanna be 30.....maybe I'll claim 27 too...
Um, does Kristen know how much I love her, too? I want to grow up and be Kristen. And you. Yeah, that's what I want to be when I grow up. The surprise party is nice and all, but the Hawaiian theme shows they are the truest of friends, the bestkind. Love me some Kissels (and I love how Maya says Sister Kissel with her little accent, by the way).
How nice....I wondered if you would have any birthday celebration since you were leaving on your birthday.
That's so sweet of them and super fun to have the Hawaiian theme.
Sounds like you had a great celebration.
